“I can entertain the proposition that life is a metaphor for boxing - for one of those bouts that go on and on, round following round, jabs, missed punches, clinches, nothing determined, again the bell and again and you and your opponent so evenly matched it’s impossible to see your opponent is you …”
Joyce Carol Oates, "On Boxing"
I was attracted by boxing since I was a child with no apparent reason. I decided to take pictures of boxers in 2012, the first one was a famous boxer of my hometown. Since then, I have travelled all around Italy - Naples, Sicily, Rome, Milano - to discover a young and fresh new generation of boxers.
Through them I understand the reason why boxe is considered the noble art. It's not just punching. It's more about use your brain and respect the enemy, even if the act of boxing can be very dangerous - and ungenerous with your opponent. Boxers, somehow, reminds me of artists. They nee d to face their fragility in order to become real warriors.
